For my 3rd post, I wanted to highlight a recent movie I watched again and accompanying it, a video breaking down the animatic behind the actually movie scene.
I found this inspiring as I am currently working through the animatic of my own short film. The roughness, scribble-like lines, and overall timing helped me gain a breath of fresh air around the concept of storyboarding and generally conceptualizing my own short film.
So many storyboards these days, and animatics included, are over-done to the point to which they look like short films in their own right. Storyboard artists have taken the role of key animators blurring the line of what it means to be either-or.
I appreciate boards that acknowledge, they are not animation. They serve to block out key scenes and at its core communicate to the creators where the story is going. I intend to use that concept in my own boards.
